Scratch Chocolate Cake with Butter

CAKE INGREDIENTS:

All-purpose flour Cocoa powder Baking powder Baking soda Salt Brown sugar Granulated sugar Butter Oil Vanilla extract Milk Eggs Hot coffee or water

Mix together all of the dry ingredients. Just use a whisk to easily mix them together.

Mix together all of the liquid ingredients except for the hot coffee or water. Just use a whisk.

Add sugars and butter to mixer and mix for several minutes until light and fluffy.

Alternately add in the dry and liquid ingredients beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.

Add in the very hot coffee or water, if you don't like coffee, and mix until well combined.

After the layers are baked, let them cool on wire racks before adding buttercream.
