This cake was a labor of love. My son and daughter-in-law are having a baby girl and asked me to make the cake for their shower with a simple design. Of course, I said yes and I had so much fun making it!

Baby in bloom decorated baby shower cake for a girl with vanilla buttercream and two cake tiers with purple and pink flowers, a fondant baby on top and a wooden cake topper that says baby in bloom.

About this cake:

The theme was ‘baby in bloom’ and the colors were pale pink and lilac. I love making floral arrangements out of faux or silk flowers because you can make them ahead of time, so that’s what I did here.

I also wanted to add a special touch to the top of the cake and used a fondant baby mold to help me make the cute little baby that sits on petals.

Of course, if you make one of these cakes, you don’t have to do it exactly like I did. You don’t have to make the little fondant baby, but I thought it gave it a nice touch.

Fondant decorated baby on the top of the cake.

This cake ended up being super heavy. I’m not sure why, but maybe it was the amount of buttercream I used. I definitely don’t skimp on the buttercream.

What’s great about this cake tutorial?

• Simple and pretty design
• Easy way to make a floral cake topper
• Customizable design
• Doesn’t have to be two-tiered
• Perfect for a girl baby shower
